Hello, I need your expertise. I just moved to property with a well. A well person says the well is 78 ft deep w/56 ft of water. He installed the pump and a w6 tank. The well has OK quality water. It looks like a little iron is there but it does not stink like sulfur and pretty clear. If I get a new one drilled the water may be worse than what I have (this is going by the neighbors water supply.)
The problem...it supplies water but probably not at the rate we will use at certain times. I was thinking maybe installing a 500 gallon reservoir tank. What do you think?

Do you know the diameter of the well and what kind of pump you have? For instance in Wisconsin, six inch wells seem to be the norm. You have 56' of water in the well for usage which is actually (assuming you can use it all) 84 gallons of water not counting on the recovery rate of the well. So you might be able to get by with what you have.
The thing you will probably have to do is a pump test. You can have a driller do it for you, or if your interested, we can talk you through it. This will tell you how much water the well is making in gallons per minute.

| I will find out the information about the pump and diameter of the well. I think that the rate of water is not consistent. Once it was really great and another time really slow. I will get the numbers of the previous test. I was not involved on the initial well situation. However, I will learn all about the well in order to have good water and maintain the system. Overall something doesn't sound right to me. Maybe the well person really wanted to drill another well. I do not understand how at random times the pressure is good and others it is very low. I am an electronics person expanding my knowledge. I intend to do a pump test myself to see if my results are near what the well person reported. Your help is greatly appreciated. |

There may be other things messing with your water pressure. A water softener maybe. Waterlogged tank. Encrusted plumbing etc.
Can you see the well outside in the yard? If so, describe to me what you see. Or post a picture.

You can, but I'm leaving for Michigan tomorrow and probably won't be near a computer again for a week or better starting around noon today.
Maybe one of the other guys or gals can post them for you.
