I was told that I can put three gls. of clorox bleach in my well to kill any germs and clean. Is this true? I'm on the gulf coast and my well is 16 years old 140ft. submerse pump

I could build you a simple filter that is manually backwashable or a completely automatic one. It just depends on how much you want to spend. Once it's installed, you don't have to buy anything else.

Three gallons would probably be way too much chlorine.

You need tests for iron, pH, hardness, Coliform bacteria at least. Sulfates and chlorides, nitrates and nitrite would be good too. Most any independent water treatment dealer can do those test but may have to send the bacteria sample out to a lab.

Is there something better? Do you have something that will take care of all the problems I'm having?
speedbump Posted - Jun 11 2008 : 8:14:00 PM
If that's the case you need a much better and larger filter.

I'm not sure what the Fish smell would be but the gold water is probably Iron.

You should have a water analysis done before you do anything else. Don't use Water Softener Salesmen for this. Use an approved Lab.

I don't know if it's contaminated, but it smell's like fish. and truns everything brown.

You can disinfect your well with Bleach, that is true. But if it's not contaminated; why bother? Do you know that there is a bacterial problem with your well?
